FAQ

What is this roleplay really about?
CR. The station wants your characters to interact with each other. As such, your character receives credits for when they do. In the future, several "alien" races have moved away from social situations. They don't need them to survive and they don't want them (think like a hyper version of the Vulcans). However, there is a small group of sentient beings that believe the opposite. To prove their point, they came up with an experiment to prove that social interaction and emotions weren't the evil that the rest of Earth believes.

Why do I have to be at least eighteen (18)?
The experiment is on social interaction. That ranges from going out as friends to more intimate encounters. In a roleplay perspective, we do not discourage such things. If you want to play it out, more power to you. To make it clear, Dreamwidth and its affiliates spell out rules for their communities. As there is a possibility of content that may be considered inappropriate to minors, we are choosing to have an age limit and lock any post that may be considered explicit content.

Who can I play?
Any fictional character that is over the age of fifteen (15). They will need to be aged up to 18.

There are, however, some exceptions the mods are willing to make. Please consult a mod for further details.

Who is ALICE?
ALICE is simply the computer that runs the space station and the experiment itself.

Does anyone else run the ship?
No. ALICE runs everything with the assistance of androids. Every shopkeeper, waiter, waitress, and maintenance men will look exactly the same.

What is the credit system?
Like every experiment there has to be a reason to participate. When having a mouse run through a maze, you put a slice of cheese at the end. In this experiment; your character is the rat. Social interaction is the maze and "credits" are the cheese. Your character will earn credits based on the interactions they have with other characters. From a simple date all the way to something more romantic and physical, all acts will earn credits. See the Credit Guide to see how credits are accumulated and lost.

What if they don't care about credits?
They do not have to participate. In the experiment they will receive a free place to stay and sustenance for free. However, if they want any of the finer things in life, they will need to earn credits.

Sex?
Characters are not required to have sex. However, they are required to have sex once a month should they wish to keep the credits they've earned. See the Credit Guide for more information regarding this.

Sustenance?
In the future, humans survive on a syrupy tasteless gel that delivers all vital nutrients to the body. It's slimy and tastes fifty times blander than water.

What are these bracelets?
The bracelets are simply devices that monitor your characters interactions and transfer the information to ALICE and to the computers in their room.

My character is Blind/Deaf/Mute/Stupid....
This is the future, they can be rebuilt! They can be cured! In other words, if your character chooses, such ailments can be cured. Your mute character can talk or your blind character can see. Of course, there is a cost for such things...

My character is a superhero, has magical powers and can kick a lot of ass!
Not anymore. ALICE will strip your character of their useful and destructive powers and make them relatively harmless. Shoot laser beams from your eyes? Not gonna happen anymore. Magical girl transformation pens and staffs? They're only decorations now. Superheroes with actual superpowers? You only get to keep your spandex.

My character doesn't have any special powers but they are skilled in things like martial arts, close quarter combat, whatever whatever. Can they keep those?
Yes. Those special skills that don't require anything supernatural to learn, they get to keep.

What is the character limit?
In the beginning, the limit is two (2) characters. Every time a player passes an activity check, that number is increased by one (1). The maximum number of characters that anyone is allowed is five (5).

How does my character get to the station?
Short story? They're transported through a dimensional transportation device. Long story? Your character is pulled through a scientific method of bending the fabric of space and time. They arrive in the medical bay with only the clothes and items that they have on their person. At this point they are examined by one of the medical droids (it is also at this point that they are fitted for their bracelet) before a helper droid takes them to a waiting room to fill out a small questionnaire. This will determine where they will be roomed and a helper droid will help them get there.

Questionnaire?
Just like in college dorm applications, characters will fill out a questionnaire to pair them up in a room with someone who has similar interests. When paired up as such, their personalities tend to be compatible with each other and they're more likely to get along. In theory. This is actually part of the application.

Wait... Are they kidnapped/tricked/seduced?
This is entirely up to the player. You can have them kidnapped by what may seem like force, you can have them receive a letter telling them to go to such and such location (of course, when they get there, they'll have a nice trip to the future to deal with) or you can even have them just wake up in the medical bay. The Futuristic Hippies simply gave ALICE the orders to retrieve people, they never said how.

Side effects of time travel?
Time travel is probably not the most fun situation. When your character arrives on the ship, expect them to feel a little under the weather. More than likely they're going to feel a little queasy and have a major case of jet lag (time lag? XD)

Are they aware that there is an experiment going on?
No. As far as the characters know, they were kidnapped and given an option: socialize or have a very mundane life of no entertainment and nutrient gel.

Does socializing with the droids count?
Unfortunately, no.

My character is 4545849853989385 years old, but looks 10...
If they've lived for 4894598489844 years, then that would be their age.

My character likes to fight, what then?
Hey, if the other character agrees to fight/spar/practice, it counts as a social interaction. Ka-ching, let the cash register ring.

Why should my character be 15 and older?
If we're looking at the premise of the community, we are looking at an experiment that is looking to see the effect of social interaction on the human (humanoid?) race. As such, they would be searching for individuals that are at a stage of their life that social interaction becomes important to their being. Adolescence (a.k.a. the point after puberty) is the time that many important psychological changes occur. It is the point when a person is starting to flesh out who they are. Events such as peer pressure and the unconscious search for roles in society occur. We understand that it's true that younger characters can carry CR. As a general rule, a community should be able to bend and flex as needed by the RP community. As such, if it comes to a point where a demand for younger characters is brought to our attention, things may be changed.

What about socially controversial subjects?
As a community we do not support such actions; however, they do happen. They happen in real life and in fiction so please be aware that there is a possibility that they could occur here.
